The Backpack Program is run out of McCulloch Education Centre, a school in Pictou, NS that serves children in grades Primary to Six.
The backpack program provides nutritious, easy to prepare food for children and their families on weekends an holidays, when they would not be able to access nutritious food at school.Each week the program provides milk, eggs, bread, 1 vegetable (bag of carrots), 1 fruit (bag of apples), cheese, as well as pasta, sauce, peanut butter or meat when it is within the budget. A nutritious diet contributes to their health and well-being while also supporting better learning.
